This section provides infuriation useful in diagnosing
and correcting unsatisfactory operation of the charging
oxygen nitrogen acetylene gas plants and its components. Each of trouble symptoms state
is followed by a list of probable causes of the trouble.
The possible remedy recommended is described opposite the
probable cause.
Acetylene Gas Generator :
| Probable Cause | Possible remedy |
| water level too low as determined by test
valves. |
|
| Residue drain valve leaking. | Check
residue drain valve torn obstruction under seat. Open
valve wide and allow obstruction to pass. Replace
drain valve seat if worn. |
| water level too high as determined by test valves. | |
| Drain valve air pressure above 9 psig. |
|
| Residue drain line plugged. | Unplug drain line
by back flushing or disassembling of line. |
|
Drain valves air pressure below 9 psig. |
|
| Drain control air pressure gauge is not working. | Replace or check the pressure gauge. |
|
Drain control level transmitter
pressure above level transmitter pressure above 7
Psig .
|
|
| Pilot valve not working. | Insert pinhole in drain pilot valve.
This will manually operate it. Correct pilot valve malfunction before resuming operations. |
| Drain control level transmitter pressure below 7 psig . | |
| Leak in air line at control or pilot valve. | Check for leak with soap water . |
| Condensation in level transmitter equalizer line | Remove plug. If more than tour drops of condensate come out. keep the valve closed for 15 sees and then close it. Repeat until less than four drops come out. If more than two draining were required, this means that either there is a leak in the equalizer line outside the generator Rectify |
| Coating built up on control diaphragm . | Clear or replace diaphragm. |
| Alarm bell rings and acetylene gas generator low level alarm transmitter air pressure gauge is below 7 psig. | |
| Low water level | Open manual test valves and
low limit
test valves for confirmation. If water level is below low limit test valve, turn off toggle hopper switches until condition is corrected by addition of water. Check residue drain valve and tank drain plug for leakage and correct if appreciable leakage is found. If neither of the above condition exists check low level air line for leak. |
| Alarm bell rings and acetylene generator high level alarm transmitter air pressure gauge is below 7 psig. | |
| High water level. | Open high level test valve for confirmation. If water
level is high. turn off hopper toggle switches until condition is corrected. Check residue drain valve for faulty operating and for obstruction. If neither to the above conditions exist check high level air line and high level shut oft valve for leak. |
