Designs used in the fabricating of the acetylene plants are prepared by our engineers in consultation with Boschi. Acetylene is produced due to chemical reaction between the calcium and water. The by-product calcium hydroxide is generated automatically from the generator. Acetylene gas is used in cutting and welding torch along with oxygen and it produces the highest temperature of any known oxygen gas mixture.The process is so synchronized as to ensure efficiency and simplicity in operation. Any failure is signaled visually and audibly when an alarm bell rings to alert the operator. Only flame proof lights and electrical fittings according to IS2148-68 (Group II) or BSS-229 may be used in an acetylene plant building. Acetylene cylinders must be of specification IS: 7312: 1974 or ICC: 8.
ACETYLENE GENERATOR : Acetylene GeneratorThe medium pressure UA acetylene generator is stationary carbide to water automatic generator with twin hoppers. Acetylene is generated as a result of the chemical reaction between calcium carbide and water. The generator is designed to generate acetylene at a pressure of 7 psi. CONDENSER : The condensor cools and purifies the gas thereby condensing the excessive moisture. Cooling water is circulated on the shell side from bottom to top .Condenser is designed to suit all local conditions provided sufficient water flow is maintained.
LOW PRESSURE DRYER : LOW PRESSURE DRYERThis is a pressure vessel charged with solid anhydrous carbide which absorbs the moisture in the gas.
PURIFIER : PURIFIERThis is a large vessel provided with two sectors by wire mesh frame network. Each section by wire meshes frame work. Each sectors are charged with purifying mass which absorbs gases like hydrogen sulphide, phosgene etc.
AMMONIA SCRUBBER : AMMONIA SCRUBBERThis equipment has a vertical vessel filled with a level gauge and water make-up line. A particular as marked on the level indicator has to be maintained. The ammonia scrubber all the water soluble impurities like ammonia.
ACETYLENE COMPRESSOR : ACETYLENE COMPRESSOR The acetylene compressor is a three stage machine which is immersed in water filled tank to avoid any pressurized gas to come in contact with air and also to make sure that all the components are continuously cooled. The compressor is drawn by flame proof motor from outside the tank.
HIGH PRESSURE DRYER : ACETYLENE COMPRESSOR The high pressure dryer consists of three columns. The first column is filled with packing to avoid any void and for proper mixing and the second and third are filled with anhydrous calcium chloride.
ACETYLENE FILLING MANIFOLD : ACETYLENE FILLING MANIFOLDThe acetylene gas manifold consists of two headers fitted with non-return valves, one flash back arrestors, pressure gauge and manual isolation valves.
Portable Lighting : During 18th century, acetylene gas was used for lighting lamps called as carbide or acetylene gas lamp. These were also used in homes and cars as well as in mines.
Welding, Cutting and Heat Treating : Acetylene gas is considered ideal for welding and cutting. The welding process that uses acetylene is called as oxy-fuel cutting. It is employed for welding and cutting. The technique is used to weld or cut materials as high as 3,500 °C (6,330 °F). There is no denying acetylene is capable of producing the hottest flame. It is important for heat treating metals and other materials. Acetylene gas is used in making automotive manufacturing parts and other metals requiring precision.
Making of Chemicals : Acetylene is used on a big scale in chemical synthesis. It is used for making many inorganic compounds. It is must for synthesizing vitamins like Vitamin A & E. It is also used for making certain components of perfumes, solvents, etc. Acetylene gas is used for making acetic acid, 1,4-butanediol (BDO), several acetylenic alcohols, etc.
Making of polyethylene plastics : Acetylene is used for making ethylene or methane which in turn making polyethylene plastics, PVC, and PDF. It is made up of mixture of acetylene with other chemicals or elements like chlorine, hydrochloric acid, etc.
